Action Sports

An exciting day watching racing around the streets of Long Beach.  I tried to get as much as I could but there are so many races and classes it is not possible to get it all.  Thus, I have no pictures of the super trucks (I could not shoot through the fences), and did not get any pictures of the NTT Indycar races

A cloudy day for much of the day, it even rained for a short while, temporarily pausing the show.  Not a great day for pictures because of the clouds, but they made for great vapor cloud pictures!

A weekend of races of Jet Skis and Seadoos at the Huntington Beach pier on May 6 and 7, 2023.  Lots of action, many crashes with people falling off their skis when hitting the waves to fast or at the wrong angle.  A demonstration team performed tricks on Jet Skis in the surf, which was very exciting to watch!

Highlights of the 2022 Pacific Air Show in Huntington Beach on October 2, 2022.

A three day event featuring mostly hydroplanes, ranging from 1 liters (small hydroplanes with a modified jet ski engine), to GP Light, to Grand Prix hydroplanes (with a Chevrolet 350 engine).  The star was the big boys, the H1 hydroplanes with a jet engine that can approach 200 MPH in the straights, and average 155+ MPH a lap.  They sound somewhat like a hair dryer or vacuum cleaner.

A big lens and a fast camera are a great combination, especially with planes that are travelling at hundreds of miles per hour, sometimes approaching the speed of sound.
